-- portfolio my story banter let's chat portfolio my story banter let's chat fgm awareness nhs i worked with nhs bristol and local communities on a campaign to raise awareness around the issues of female genital mutilation (fgm). my aim was to create an image that was impactful and universally recognised, and help inform communities and medical professionals on the impact of fgm. i went on to design various leaflets and posters to engage the public in arabic, english, french and somali. these were displayed in doctors surgeries, hospitals and community centres. this campaign image was later rolled out nationally. gautier toux trio the colours you see / naim records this was a great project to work on from the outset. having really strong photography by sylvain gripoix and the band and label giving me freedom to explore was a bonus. it was one of those jobs that naturally came together. my approach was to let the photography speak for itself by looking at crops that focused on interesting textures and colour, together with typography that worked in harmony. from bandcamp page: ”award-winning composer and pianist, gauthier toux is ready to deliver his newest body of work, ‘the colours you see’, a carefully considered and introspective jazz journey” listen to music st pauls carnival logo and merchandise logo design for bristol’s own african caribbean st pauls carnival. combining the iconic steel pan and human shapes to form a circle of celebration, unity and community. the logo consists of the standard logo, variations including a community interest company version and anniversary version celebrating 50 years since the birth of carnival. the logo was used across all communications and merchandise including the t-shirt above. conversations about cinema watershed this identity was designed for an initiative to spark debate with film audiences. mark cosgrove at watershed sums it up well: “i think about film more as the start of a dialogue rather than as the escapist form of entertainment with which it has become identified.” the identity was used on promotional material including posters, websites and discussion cards for feedback after screenings. visit website larmer tree festival music festival commissioned by smith&milton, this is one of a series of t-shirts i designed for larmer tree festival. combining the festival's association with peacocks and music, this was quite a fun job to work on – although i did feel a bit dizzy working with this image after a bit! sin happy vacationists 10x10 i created this album artwork for the sin happy vacationists, a hip-hop inspired crew in which i was the mc. the music was released in december 2015 but was actually created 10 years earlier but at the time we didn't realise we had an album! the artwork theme touches on the 3 members, the 10 tracks and 10 years passed. the album is out on bandcamp and the first 200 downloads are free! produced by stefan goodchild & bobby bignell lyrics written | performed by derek edwards 'better days' co-written | performed by rachael roberts sessions recorded, 2005 @ groovement records mastered by anthony chapman audio, 2015. afro-caribbean community network brand identity this branding project was designed for a manchester based organisation set-up to celebrate afro-caribbean culture through music and the arts. formed to inspire, educate and bring together the local and wider community. the bigger picture bfi – film audience network designed this logo for an initiative setup to find out what is happening across the uk’s bfi fan wide programmes and projects. their website www.the-bigger-picture.com showcases inspirational case studies of cinema innovation, articles and research. coconut chilli indian cuisine packaging, digital and branding for producers of award winning indian cuisine. food and design are inspired by the indian hill stations, built for the wealthy british during the raj and now enjoyed by young aspirational indians. combining a classic british aesthetic with a modern indian twist. joseph arthur the family / real world records i was commissioned by real world records to design this concept album for joseph. each song coming from the perspective of a different family member and composed on a steinway that was owned by one family for 100 years. inspired by the theme of the album i created artwork that was part journal – part photo album. find out more photography & paintings: joseph arthur shambala music and arts festival branding shambala for the 2011 festival, i came up with the campaign 'join the cause', promoting the festival as movement. this was rolled out across merchandise, tickets, leaflets, press, posters, programmes and online. the campaign was also adapted to work with sustrans, who partnered up with shambala and organised several bike rides from different locations to the festival, it was called 'join the ride'. brian aldiss the moment of eclipse this book is a collection of short stories including super-toys last all summer time, in which stanley kubrik's a.i. was based on, this story also helped inspire the cover design. this is one of over thirty book jackets i have had the honour to design for this science fiction grandmaster. other titles featured here include; new arrivals, old encounters, barefoot in the head and bury my heart at wh smiths. saco serviced apartments i was asked to work with cx partners to help redesign saco’s website. as one of the travel industry’s leading serviced apartment providers we had to ensure we put digital at the heart of their business, to help reposition the brand as a consumer proposition, improve customer satisfaction and shift revenue online. i worked closely with ux and the creative team to help design the templates, ensuring they worked across all devises and remained on brand. coconut chilli indian cuisine packaging, digital and branding for producers of award winning indian cuisine. food and design are inspired by the indian hill stations, built for the wealthy british during the raj and now enjoyed by young aspirational indians. combining a classic british aesthetic with a modern indian twist. cinema rediscovered watershed identity design for international archive film event taking place in bristol and the surrounding region. in association with independent cinema office (ico), south west silents and 20th century flicks. the identity plays with themes of discovery, movement and diversity. visit website katie maddison event managment i designed this website for katie who manages events for the the music and arts industry. the home page illustration that represents construction also make up the user interface. i designed something functional but also playful and creative to reflect katie's personality. womad music and arts festival inspired by old letterpress posters, this design made up the festival identity for 2004. on a earlier draft the typographic approach was more random, i decided to amend this when a couple of bands dropped out and it became a real puzzle! i devised a grid system so that if another band dropped out it would only effect the square it lived in. i also implemented this design on adverts, merchandise, programmes and tickets. afrofuturism watershed created the branding for afrofuturism, an event experience hosted at bristol's watershed. show casing the black experience through sci-fi via film, music and art. a place where space, pyramids, funk and politics collide. i designed a cohesive logo and illustration style in which i took influence from sun ra's visual aesthetic of africa, space and empowerment, this was used across print and online to promote the event. find out more asere a favor del viento this is the latest album from cuban band asere. roughly translated the title means go with the wind, spontaneity, or going with one’s intuition. the title is taken from a song on the album, and was the basis of my design approach. womad cáceres music and arts festival this poster was d
